Solo Mio is a romantic comedy directed by Chuck Kinnane and Dan Kinnane. The screenplay was written by Kevin James, Patrick Kinnane, and John Kinnane. The movie premiered at the 2026 Coconut Grove Cinépolis and was released widely by Angel Studios.
Matt Taylor (Kevin James) is in Rome, Italy, excited to marry his fiancée, Heather (Julie Ann Emery). He discovers that she has left him at the altar, devastating him. Realizing he cannot get a refund on his honeymoon package, he decides to go on the activities. Julian (Kim Coates) and his wife, Meghan (Alyson Hannigan), who are getting married for a third time, and newlyweds Neil (Jonathan Roumie) and Donna (Julee Cerda) adopt him into their group, trying to help him move on. Matt then meets the Italian barista, Gia (Nicole Grimaudo), who develops a crush on him. The two begin to spend time with each other, but will both their exes cause them trouble?
If you are looking for a fun date night movie for a weekend outing or a Valentine’s Day viewing, this is an excellent choice. It has a charming vibe to it, even as it deals with the loss of a relationship. We see Matt handle the grief over his lost relationship and look for a way to move on.
This film has an excellent cast. James leads with his usual ease and comedic timing. It was also nice to see the rest of the cast play against their usual type. Roumie, in particular, does a good job of bringing a subtle edge to his performance. Of course, it is always good to see Hannigan. She is always a delight. I must admit, I am not familiar with Grimaudo’s body of work, but I thought she did an excellent job in this movie.
I also found the score, done by Joy Ngiaw, to be well-made. It does a good job of capturing the themes in the movie, helping you connect with special moments within the plot. I also appreciated that it did not interject as a lot of these romcoms do by accident. I appreciated this and applaud the pleasant soundtrack additions.
As I mentioned earlier, this is a solid date-night movie that has a familiar cast, a cozy setting, and some laughs provided by James. It is the perfect film for a romantic evening with your loved one. It explores themes of break-ups, relationships, and how to move on.
Bottom line, Solo Mio is a charming romcom that captures the beauty of Rome while embracing a new outlook on life. It is a solid movie with a cozy atmosphere and a fun cast.

I'd see this if I wasn't currently half blind. Hopefully I'll get healed and be able to enjoy it later. Thanks for the review.
Great point about the score not interjecting. So many romcoms ruin emotional beats by having the music try to do all the heavy lifting instead of trusting the actors. Sounds like this one lets the performances breathe. Also Roumie playing against type is intresting, usually hes so wholesome in everything I've seen him in.
