Tubi Rescues Sci-Fi Comedy 'Demascus' From AMC Trash Bin
The first season was filmed in 2023.
Despite filming its first season of six episodes, AMC canceled the science fiction comedy series Demascus before it could even air. Fortunately for those involved, Tubi has picked it up for a second season to premiere in August 2025.
Tubi SVP of Content Acquisition and Partnerships, Samuel Harowitz, expressed his excitement in a press release.
“We’re excited to introduce audiences to DEMASCUS—a bold, genre-bending blend of comedy and sci-fi that challenges conventions as much as it entertains,” he said. “At Tubi, we champion stories that surprise, provoke, delight, and resonate deeply with engaged fandoms, and DEMASCUS is exactly the kind of original storytelling we’re proud to spotlight.”
Executive producer Mark Johnson added, “Through his titular character Demascus, Tearrance Chisholm asks one of life’s simplest questions: What does it take to be a good man? And he answers it with some of the most surprising and nuanced revelations one could expect.”
Johnson will develop the series through his Gran Via Productions.
“We thank AMC Studios for sharing our belief in this seriocomic series and Tubi for its steadfast conviction that it belongs on the air,” he added.
The series follows Demascus (Okieriete Onaodowan), “a 33-year-old man, on a mission of self-discovery and the burgeoning field of digital psychiatry that may be the key to defining his truest self.”
Tubi says that it “will premiere the Full Season of the Limited Series From Playwright Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm…”
The show also stars Janet Hubert (Christmas Belles), Caleb Eberhardt (What We Found), Shakira Ja’nai Paye (A Different Kind of Forever), and Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys For Life) in a recurring role.
