Who else feels like going retro in a rad way? Heading into the 90s and the early 2000s, Disney produced some original live-action and animated sitcoms that actually entertained audiences, kids, and parents alike.
Yes, I get it. Disney has turned into a politically corrupt corporation obsessed with identity politics. However, when I was growing up, you could not keep me from the Disney Channel, where we watched a Disney Channel Original Series or two. They were well-written, discussed good morals, and had the perfect balance of cheesiness, wackiness, and also serious learning experiences.
Here are my top 10 Disney Channel Original Series:
10. Brandy & Mr. Whiskers
Before Zootopia, there was this show. Brandy is a heiress who gets caught up with a zany rabbit and ends up stranded on an island.
09. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
Twin brothers, played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, live in the Tipton, a fancy hotel with their lounge singer single mother. It could be zany at times, but it was actually pretty funny, at least before the boat spin-off.
08. The Jersey
Based on the Monday Night Football Club novels by Gordon Korman, the show follows four friends who get a magic jersey that allows them to change into famous athletes. Many real ones guest-starred, including Tony Hawk, Laila Ali, Peyton Manning, and Shannon Sharpe.
07. Dave The Barbarian
Dave might be a barbarian, but he is a coward. It is up to him and his older sister Candy to protect the kingdom while their parents are off “fighting evil.”
06. The Famous Jett Jackson
Lee Thompson Young played a character who was a teen star of a show-within-a-show. It had a lot of fun moments and great humor. The series would get a TV film.
05. That’s So Raven
Raven-Symoné portrays a teenager with psychic abilities who has dreams of becoming a fashion designer. It would be the first Disney Original to get not one, but two spin-offs.
04. Kim Possible
This animated comedy show featured Disney stars Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle voicing spies Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable respectively. The two of them were saving the world, one mission at a time.
03. Phil of the Future
A family from the 22nd Century is trapped in the 21st Century after their time machine malfunctions. It followed Phil and his sister as they tried to adapt to life in the past.
02. Lizzie McGuire
A show with an animated sidebar, this teen sitcom starred Hillary Duff. It had everything that made shows we loved great: crazy little siblings, good parents, best friends, and a weird school.
01. Even Stevens
The story of the Stevens family, including Louis, portrayed by Shia LaBeouf, and Ren, played by Christina Romano, navigating all kinds of troubles, including getting tricked into doing a game show.
