‘The Eminence In Shadow’ Anime Season 2 Part 1 Review- Red Moon Rising
This anime aired in 2024.
The second season of The Eminence In Shadow opens up with the “Lawless City Arc.” It was produced by Nexus and directed by Kazuya Nakanishi. It is based on the manga written by Daisuke Aizawa and illustrated by Anri Sakano.
Cid (Adam Gibbs) and his sister Claire (Luci Christian) arrive in the Lawless City, a region controlled by four criminal overlords, to have some fun. Unfortunately, they arrive on the night of the Blood Moon, activating a curse that turns residents into vampires, except for outsiders. Cid secretly transforms into Lord Shadow, seeing an opportunity. Thinking Cid was kidnapped by the vampires, Claire partners with Mary (Katelyn Barr), the Ancient Vampire Hunter with a secret agenda. Lord Shadow lays waste to the villains of the Lawless City, but is stunned when Alpha (Christina Kelly) sends backup he did not want.
Cid is one of the most interesting isekai protagonists. Some seek adventure. Some seek fame. Some are framed. Some want to escape. Cid sees it as a game, pretending to be a “side character” while Lord Shadow leads an army of vigilantes. He only wants to enrich himself and have fun while doing it.
This arc truly brought out his desire for fun and fortune. As a whole city is attacked by vampires, he just looks for treasure. In fact, Claire and Mary are doing the most action in this arc. It is well-written and has a ton of action. While it has its signature humor, this arc had a lot of horror as well. I thought it was impressive and raised the stakes, especially when a final battle happens in the light of the Blood Moon.
