TEN Chapter 1 is a sci-fi indie superhero comic book written by Christopher Rhodes and drawn by Marcos Lima. It was released in 2020 after a successful crowdfunding and it is now available to read for free.
Five years after aliens arrived on Earth and gave ten humans superpowers, the Peacekeeper is an American hero who is forbidden from operating in the United States. After responding to an international threat and a disastrous interview, Peacekeeper begins to think there is a conspiracy to keep him and the other heroes out of America.
I have been scouring for indie comics since I became bored with the mainstream. This comic was recommended to me on social media, so I clicked the link to the free first issue. I was so glad that I did.
Modern superhero comics have always been a subgenre of science fiction, but this story leans more into the sci-fi aspect of it. This made it stand out as an adventure. Do not get me wrong, there is plenty of superhero action and drama to keep you hooked.
Peacekeeper was also compelling as a character. He is conflicted about his role on the team and desires to do a lot more, especially in the United States. I had a lot of fun reading his adventures and hearing his origins, not to mention watching him fight off some bad guys.
The artwork was excellent as well. I especially thought the character designs were original, the action sequences flowed smoothly, and the background illustrations worked well. The art complemented the plot perfectly.
I look forward to reading chapter 2, and now chapter 3 is currently being crowdfunded. This is a fun and exciting superhero comic to add to your collection.
