Taylor Swift’s “Babe” (Taylor’s Version) Music Review

This new version was released in 2021.

Taylor Swift has been revisiting some of her old music. This time, I am taking a look at “Babe,” which was originally released on her RED album and is now part of the “Taylor’s Version” of releases. Yes, I know I’m late to the game.

The song is written by Swift and Train band member Patrick Monahan. It was originally a collaboration between her and the country music band Sugarland when the original version was released in 2018. Swift even starred in a music video for the song.

For her RED (Taylor’s Version) album release, this version of “Babe” removes all country music elements and turns it into what Swift does best: a pop song. Though I would categorize it more as “contemporary pop” since it is slow-moving and not snappy.

While I am not prepared to say it is better than the original version, it definitely has its own identity. Taylor Swift’s passion and love for music come out a bit clearer. Her lyrics are pretty standard for one of her songs, but I do like how her performance brings the song back to its roots. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of these “Taylor’s version” of songs, even more than has been released. She knows her fans, and they know her.
