The indie publisher Rising Star Comics brings us Rebound! It was written by Tyson Rock, with illustrations being handled by artist Zilson Costa and colorist Javi LaParra. The comic was released after a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Kyle Mercer is a post-graduate student living in New York City who moonlights as the superhero known as Rebound. He possesses “tactile telekinesis,” which gives him control over an energy field around his body. One day, he runs afoul of Systema, a cyborg warrior, and Coil, an assassin who can control electricity. This puts his girlfriend in danger and a deadly showdown.
I would like to start by saying I got cover A (seen above) by Facundo Moyano, and it is phenomenal. It pays homage to superhero covers in the past and looks amazing. That goes for the interior art as well. I was very impressed. The character designs, action sequences, and background illustrations flowed very well.
The story is amazing. It gives a glimpse of Rebound’s origin and builds up to an epic showdown between a hero and a villain. I was glued to it from the first page and had a good time. It felt like an old-fashioned comic book from the nineties. The creators have already said a sequel is on the way, along with other releases. I certainly hope so, because this was one of my favorite indie releases of the year.
