I recently read a book giving pointers and advice to writers, and the author of said book did nothing but praise Presumed Innocent by legal thriller author Scott Turow. So, I decided to check it out for myself.
From the description,
Deputy District Attorney Rusty is highly respected by his colleagues and his wife. He is assigned by boss, who is running for re-election as District Attorney, to investigate the murder of another deputy DA named Carolyn. The problem is, Rusty has an affair with her, and instead of telling his boss about the obvious conflict of interest, he investigates.
However, after his boss losses the election, the new DA, along with his new Chief Deputy Tommy Morrow, charge Rusty with the crime and come after him with the full force of the law.
This is one of the best legal thrillers I’ve read in some time.
Granted, this book is very old, but oh well, I just read it and decided to review it. The author tells the story in a first-person narrative and you even start to wonder about suspects and Rusty’s narration, but the twist at the end, you don’t see coming.
I was definitely hooked early on and I think you will be too.
The book would inspired a film and later a television series.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments below. Tell me if there is a comic book, movie, or anime you would like me to review.
