In the pages of Shonen Jump and Viz Media, My Hero Academia Volume 2 from Kouhei Horikoshi continues the tale of a young hero.
Izuku has done it. He has made it to UA High School to become a new hero while getting private lessons from All Might on how to use the One-For-All quirk. While All Might is still wrestling with the loss of his power, Izuku is still trying to win over Bakugo. During a training session with the pro-hero Thirteen and teacher Eraserhead, the League of Villains attacks, endangering the young heroes with their Nomus.
One of the things I love about this volume is how it gives Thirteen and Eraserhead a chance to shine. I did notice one little mistake. Viz Media calls Thirteen a “man” in this volume, but both the manga and the anime confirm Thirteen is, in fact, a woman.
Outside of that, this volume is packed full of great action. The students, despite being rookies, come together to stall the villains while help is on the way. The artwork also complements the action. I was very impressed, especially seeing Decay and the Nomus in this early take on the League of Villains.
From this point, we see exactly how evil and how big a threat the League of Villains will be to the pro-heroes. This changes the tone and lets us know the golden age of heroes is over. OR… is it just beginning?
