Mayor Of Kingstown enters its third season with its streaming on Paramount Plus. It was created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon.
Mike McClusky (Jeremy Renner) is trying to maintain balance in Kingstown after the Russian mobster Konstantin (Yorick van Wageningen) and KKK leader Merle Callahan (Richard Brake) make an alliance. This puts pressure on his cop allies, including his brother Kyle (Taylor Handley) and his gangster ally Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa). It soon turns personal when Iris (Emma Laird) is tasked with going undercover with the Russians.
Something that I forgot to mention in my reviews of the previous seasons is how much I like the theme song. Andrew Lockington (Atlas, Cake) composed it, and he does a fantastic job. It helps set the vibe of the series.
Once again, this season raises the stakes. Mike tries to navigate the complex relationships of the gangs, the police, and the prison staff. You do not expect a lot of the twists, turns, betrayals, and alliances that come in this season. I was blown away by how thrilling it was, and I was pulled in from the very beginning. You will be stunned by how this plays out.
My only criticism is the subplots. When focused on Mike and Iris, the show was great, but the various subplots were uninteresting. The exception is with Tracy, portrayed by Nishi Munshi. This was the one subplot that had me hooked. The actress was amazing, and her arc worked perfectly.
One of the perks of this season was seeing Renner return. He had an accident that delayed this season, but he dives right back into the character. It seems like he never left, and I applaud his recovery and return. While a fourth season has not been announced, I truly hope that it gets renewed.
