‘Konosuba 2’ Anime Review- An Isekai Comedy

This show aired in 2017.

Brought to us by the Japanese animation production company Studio Deen, KonoSuba 2: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World is a comedy fantasy anime based on the isekai manga created by Natsume Akatsuki. The second season consists of ten episodes and an OVA.

After season one, Kazuma Sato (Arnie Pantoja), a young man killed in the real world and “reincarnated” in a fantasy world, finds himself on trial for treason. Though his companions Aqua (Faye Mata) and Megumin (Erica Mendez) try to help him, they seemingly make things worse for him. This forces Darkness (Cristina Vee) to make a sacrifice so that the team can continue their quest to defeat the Demon King.

I laughed in virtually every episode of this anime. It is hilarious to watch the four go on adventures, and while you might be expecting an epic, you get a sitcom. Sometimes, the humor did get a bit frantic, but I loved it. The overt sexual humor does start to get old, and it is a bit bolder in this season, but getting past that, it is funny.

They also did a good job of evolving the characters. Each one grows in their own way, and though they continue to get on one another’s nerves, their interactions and odd teamwork make it worth it.

As I stated previously, the show acts as an excellent parody of the isekai, a speculative fiction genre that involves regular folks being pulled into another world. No, it is not for young viewers, but I think mature viewers can get a good laugh at it.
