Knight Of Slaughter is an indie manga written by Antonio Cooper and drawn by the artist known as Yulia Mori. It was released by Dark Sand Oasis Productions.
Veronica is celebrating her birthday with her father, the god of war named Hommer, and her mother, the Head Knight Lady Elesa. On her birthday, in front of her father’s whole knight order, she declares her wish to become a knight like her mother. What she does not realize is that this will change her life forever. Ahead of her is grueling training, heartbreak, and even death.
First of all, I want to praise the artwork. It does a good job of capturing the look of a Shonen Jump dark fantasy. I especially liked the design for Hommer and Elesa. Veronica was drawn well, too, but her parents were illustrated with an edge that worked well.
I had the privilege of meeting Cooper at Phoenix Fan Fusion, where he was manning a booth. He told me the story was as if “All Might (My Hero Academia) and Guts (Berserker) had a daughter.” That won me over, and I immediately purchased it.
Needless to say, I do not regret it. This is a tale with a twist, warning you that the very thing you dream of receiving could have consequences. Veronica learns this, not just the hard way, but the brutal way. I was hooked from page one.
On the first day, she is forced to train early in the morning and forbidden to address her parents in a familiar way, instead calling them Lord and Lady. This affects her emotionally as she goes through the training. Before long, even darker consequences are leveled at her.
It made for a compelling story, and I do hope that Cooper publishes the second volume.
