‘Kamen America Gaiden: Kamen Comet’ Comic Book Review
Kamen Comet and Icetosterone team up!
Kamen America Gaiden Microseries: Kamen Comet has been released by Iconic Comics. It is written by Mark Pellegrini and Eric Taylor with 8HUSA doing the artwork and Timothy Lim doing the lettering.
Following the events of “Liberating Strife,” Kamen Comet is contacted by Icetosterone to help him with an event in New Orleans. After she arrives, the unlikely fire and ice duo are assaulted by a sentient mollusk Tako Hakase who wants revenge. A simple convention turns deadly and the two have to work together to stop the evil sea creature.
This is a good one-shot. While I enjoyed Kamen Ramen’s sidequest, I like reading about Kamen Comet trying to get a break only to be thrust into an adventure. It made for a fun time and was a lot of fun to read.
I also like 8HUSA’s art style. I follow him on social media and appreciate that he loves Kamen America and engages with the fans positively. That makes his artistic contributions not only sleek but also feel authentic. He has an appreciation for Kamen Comet and it definitely shows with this adventure.
Kamen Comet was one of the first allies that Carly Vanders aka Kamen America encountered, though they were foes early on. She has always been an intriguing character and one who is actually a former military asset, so she often has to put up with the antics of her less serious allies. This time, you get to see her have a vulnerable moment and I thought that made the story special.
