Isom issue 2 from Rippaverse features some cool names. Eric D. July returns as the writer with Cliff Richards handling the artwork, Gabe Eltaeb returns to tackle the coloring, and Eric Weathers does the lettering.
A Texas rancher named Avery is a retired hero known as Isom who is pulled back into action when his sister Altona calls him to help after their former friend Darren Fontaino becomes a criminal. Isom is being watched closely by the hero team Alphacore and the mysterious super-powered woman named Yaira is nosing around. However, Isom has more on his plate when mysterious creatures are spotted on his ranch.
First of all, the Isom series has a lot of detractors. I am not one of them. I thought the first issue launched the series with excellence and there was no drop in quality in this issue either. The whole team did a fantastic of crafting a follow-up that you will not want to miss.
The plot also did a good job of world-building. For instance, we learn that the super beings are known as “Excepts” and the reason for Isom’s retirement. I also thought the action was very well done. The sequences were pristine, especially in a scene where Isom and a new character have to battle terrifying monsters. This made it a reader’s experience that you will not forget.
July and his team have announced some cool updates including that legendary writer Chuck Dixon will be doing an Alphacore spin-off with the Soska Sisters telling the story of Yaira. I cannot wait to see how it expands the lore with new characters and series.
