Invincible: Atom Eve is a special episode of the Prime Video adult animated series based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman.
During a battle between a gang of lizard people and the Guardians of the Globe, a scientist helps a pregnant woman escape a shady laboratory. The baby is given to a loving family who names her Samantha. When she is older, Samantha (Aria Kane) realizes she is different, but at twelve, her powers fully manifest, and she decides to become the hero Atom Eve (Jazlyn Ione). Little does she know that a scientist called Erickson (Lance Reddick) wants to continue some ghastly experiments.
Before we go much further, I would like to say that it was good to hear the voice of the late, great actor Lance Reddick.
This special episode was a really cool deep dive into the story of Atom Eve. She was one of the best characters from season one of Invincible, so seeing her get the spotlight was pretty cool. The animators did a good job of bringing her to life and showing how she grew up to become a great hero.
It was a thrilling look at her life, and watching her life grow. She becomes frustrated with her family, who seem to just want her to be “normal,” while she desires to be something better. It showed the frustration in a very relatable way as Samantha seeks out a bigger destiny. One of the things I appreciated was that she was not a Mary Sue. She struggles both emotionally and physically to accomplish her goals, which makes it much more interesting. I cannot wait to see how season two explores her character.
