‘Evil Among Us: Surviving A Serial Killer’ True Crime Documentary Review
Frightening encounters.
Evil Among Us: Surviving A Serial Killer is a true crime documentary that debuted on the Tubi streaming service. It was directed by Victoria Duley and written by Ben Greguoli.
Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer, terrorized communities in Washington, California, and Oregon for two decades. Career criminal Wesley Brownlee was charged with being the Stockton shooter and murdering seven women between 2021 and 2022. Juan David Ortiz, aka the Devil Behind The Badge, was a Border Patrol agent who killed prostitutes in Laredo, Texas in 2018. In 2016, Khalil Wheeler-Weaver used social media to lure and murder at least three women in New Jersey. All of these men are monsters who targeted the most vulnerable and survivors share their horrifying ordeals.
Malikha Mallette did an impressive job as the narrator. She presented all the facts, explained the events, and built up the tension with excellence. I applaud her work on this documentary.
My only issue with this documentary was that some of the experts offered nothing but the obvious, which bothered me. They rarely offered any insight, and some even came off as a bit annoying at times as they just repeated a previously stated fact, but in a different way.
Outside of that, I still found the story of these four serial killers and those who survived them to be well-told. The documentary kept the focus on them and those that were not so fortunate. I am glad their stories were told.
Hearing the harrowing tales of these survivors was sobering. Each one had a terrifying encounter with a monster but lived to tell about it. Their stories are testaments to how the human spirit wants to live and bring justice to the evils in the world.
