'Blade 2' Review- Vampire Versus Meaner Vampires

This movie came out in 2002.

Blade II entered the movie theaters directed by Guillermo del Toro, who brings a flare of brutal action and upgrades to the vampires that the Marvel Comics anti-hero is used to fighting.

Blade (Wesley Snipes) rescues his mentor Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), previously thought to be dead. However, Blade manages to save him with the help of his new partner Scud (Norman Reedus). The trio is met by a vampire house led by Eli Damaskino (Thomas Kretschmann), who wants a truce with Blade a vampire named Nomak (Luke Goss) who has evolved into a Reaper, a creature that is more powerful than any vampire. Blade and Whistler reluctantly agree, realizing the danger this creature represents.

This is the kind of movie that Del Toro was born to create. He builds off the first film predecessor in stunning fashion and takes it to a whole new level. The action, special effects, the danger of the vampires, and even Blade as a character all get a serious upgrade.

A few other critics complained about the character development in the plot. For the main characters, they continued on the trajectory from the first film. Most of the villains indeed lacked any real depth, serving mostly as cannon fodder, but the main antagonists all got a fair shake in their story arcs.

Bottom line, Blade 2 is by far the best movie in this trilogy. It is a shame that future developments could not have been so imaginative.
