Television and streaming were rough this year, but we found a few diamonds in that rough. Looking for comedies, action shows, courtroom dramas, or animation? Here are a few suggestions for your watchlist.
Art of the Surge
I was stunned by how human this documentary made Trump. As imperfect of a man as he is, he is certainly not the monster that the corporate press makes him out to be. He loves his family, cares for his friends, and consistently shows empathy for his campaign team.
Baby Reindeer
This is thrilling and even funny in some awkward moments. To expand, it is not as simple as Donny being the victim and Martha being the stalker. Donny has faults and, at times, seems to relish the attention he receives from Martha. It is only when she targets his family that he comes to his senses.
The Lincoln Lawyer
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo once again nails the part of Haller. He truly has a grasp of the character which brings him perfectly into this third season.
Bob’s Burgers
As the show enters its fifteenth season, we have so much fun with the Belcher family.
Dr. Death
In the second season, we see a dramatized version of the story of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini. He claimed he had a trachea transplant that could help. It was a fraud.
Landman
Billy Bob Thorton has an incredible performance as an oil company’s fixer.
Ripley
A lot of adaptions either try to downplay Ripley’s killer instinct or try to make it out as some sort of inappropriate relationship. Not so here, Ripley is accurately portrayed as the sociopath he is and how he simply lusts after a life of luxury, committing any crime to accomplish it.
Smiling Friends
After two years of waiting, it felt like they just picked right up where they left off. I never felt like it was lost or that it was a different show. The surreal dark comedy was back in full swing to show us the horrors of life while also showing how a simple smile can help out.
The Penguin
This is an enthralling show. You watch as Oz twists and turns, playing the Maronis against the Falcones, barely dodging getting taken out himself. He is devious, charming, deadly, and has no compassion.
Mayor Of Kingstown
This third season raises the stakes. Mike tries to navigate the complex relationships of the gangs, the police, and the prison staff. You do not expect a lot of the twists, turns, betrayals, and alliances that come in this season.
