Batman: Justice Buster enters its fourth and final volume from Kodansha and DC Comics. It is created by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, the minds behind the 2012 Ultron: Heroes Comics.
Batman’s worst fears have come true. Joe Chill has murdered Jason Todd, the vigilante calling himself the Joker. The Dark Knight’s AI Robin has attacked Wayne Manor and kidnapped Dick Grayson. Finding himself beaten, he realizes he must become hope for Gotham City or his own creation will destroy the home he has come to protect.
The artwork is top-notch. I have enjoyed the character designs for Batman, Jason, the Robin Mech, and Superman. They are fantastic and pay homage to the Nolan era of films. I also liked the action sequences and how the cityscapes popped off the page.
I normally am not a fan of a story that veers too far from the established canon. However, this series has been fantastic. It brings Batman into the modern era without pandering to the imaginary modern audience.
It was thrilling, exciting, and enthralling to watch the Dark Knight face the turmoil within himself. He has to fight the monster that created him and the monster that he created. It was a good look at the Batman tales and far better than anything DC has created in years.
