Ultraman writer Eiichi Shimizu and his collaborative artist Tomohiro Shimoguchi continue to bring us Batman: Justice Buster with volume three. It was produced by DC Comics and Kodansha.
After his artificial intelligence ROBIN takes over the Justice Buster armor and goes rogue, Batman partners with the vigilante Joker, who reveals he is the private detective Jason Todd. The two work well together and Todd asks Batman for help with his young client Dick Grayson, who thinks his uncle is an imposter. Meanwhile, a laughing serial killer in a red hood is escalating his crime spree.
I want to repeat that I love the artwork for this series. Shimoguchi does an amazing job creating the world of Gotham, showing the darkness, but also the hope. I also love how his character designs make them all unique, especially Batman. The Dark Knight stands out. His high-tech suit and armor seem to take inspiration from multiple styles, but man, is it cool.
Likewise, the plot only continues to thicken. I have not read Shimizu’s previous works, so I did not know what to expect. This penultimate entry had a twist in it that you do not expect and normally, I do not enjoy tweaking with the canon. However, he pays tribute to the Caped Crusader’s legacy and it all seems to be leading up to a final showdown.
