'A Quiet Place' Review- Makes A Lot Noise

A Quiet Place is directed by John Krasinski, who also co-wrote the film with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. It is one of the most original movies that I have seen in a long time.
Sometime in 2020, strange, savage creatures that hunt based on hearing have almost wiped out humanity. This is true even for the Abbott family. The father Lee (John Krasinski), the mother Evelyn (Emily Blunt), and their children, deaf daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and son Marcus (Noah Jupe) are still reeling from the death of the young Abbott son who was killed by the creatures.
Over a year later, Lee tries to teach his family how to survive in this new world where they can make no noise or risk sudden and brutal death. With Evelyn pregnant, Lee works overtime to secure his family’s safety.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It has some deep themes of working as a family to survive and the horror you felt as the aliens surrounded the family was genuine. It sets you on edge from the very beginning, making you cheer, cry, or wipe off sweat from your brow from being nervous. It was captivating from the beginning to the end.
Krasinski and his wife make an excellent duo in this film. They both are a powerhouse couple on-screen and behind the scenes. The two of them, along with their young costars, made you feel every emotion and moment of tension. All without words. The silence and lack of dialogue (for the most part) only add to the film's intensity. It disregards gratuitous gore, four-letter words, and shock value for genuine moments of fright.
Marco Beltrami tackles the score and he does phenomenally. He sets up the vibe excellently in each scene and pushes you further into the action.
One of the best aspects of the movie is the emphasis on family. As the Lee family goes through this life, they have hurts and desires, but they also need to survive as one family. This is another refreshing thing about the story. There are no deadbeat dads or overbearing mothers, just a family working together for survival.
There is no doubt that the film deserves to be considered for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt. As I said before, this is one of the most original films I have seen in a long time, but it barely got a nod at the Academy Awards. To me, this proves just how aristocratic they are in the entertainment industry.
Bottom line, A Quiet Place is an original sci-fi horror that raises the stakes when it comes to family survival. It is brilliantly crafted and deserves every accolade it receives.
