Happy Birthday to the United States of America. On July 4th, 1776, the world heard about how the USA was going to go independent. I am proud to be an American, and I love watching films that capture the American Spirit.
Here are ten films to watch on Independence Day:
The Alamo – This 1960 historical epic is the only movie that John Wayne directed. It recounts the Battle of the Alamo, which led to Texas independence and later statehood.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi – Michael Bay brings to life the story of terrorists assaulting the United States embassy in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012 and the men sent to save it. This movie is a sobering look at how politics can get in the way of doing the right thing.
The Great Debaters – Denzel Washington portrays real-life debate coach Melvin B. Tolson, who leads a debate team at Wiley College to take on reigning champion Harvard University.
Invasion USA – Chuck Norris co-wrote and stars in this film about a terrorist group staging an invasion in Florida. It is up to him to stop them.
My Fellow Americans – This comedy shows two former US Presidents working together to unravel a conspiracy. Jack Lemmon, James Garner, and Dan Akroyd all pull out great performances.
Kelly’s Heroes – Clint Eastwood leads a dynamite cast as a soldier who learns of some hidden gold deep behind enemy territory during World War 2.
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington – Jimmy Stewart portrays Jefferson Smith, a local outdoorsman who is thrust into becoming a senator and later framed in a conspiracy.
The Sound Of Freedom – Starring Jim Caviezel, the plot recounts the story of one man who decided to leave it all behind to rescue children from nefarious criminals. It is moving, personal, and a beautiful story.
Captain America: The First Avenger – Chris Evans makes his debut as Captain America. Taking place in World War 2, we see Cap take on Red Skull and HYDRA.
We Are Marshall – When most of their football players are killed in a plane crash, Marshall University decides to rebuild their team, but it soon becomes an uphill battle.
